Even though we’ve all been at home for some time, I’m definitely feeling the urge to dress up for a night out.
There’s something so exciting about getting ready to go out. Bars are starting to open around here and I’m 100% game!
“Going out” style is in a league of it’s own. You won’t find a lot of inspiration on Pinterest or on the feeds of bloggers because going out clothes are typically muted (dark colors rule here) and edgy. That just isn’t typical blogger style!
Plus, anything you do find online will probably be out of style. I was browsing on Pinterest and found a “going out outfit” from 2013! That’s definitely not what we want.
I love making collages for my own outfits (it helps me plan) so I’m going to put my newest going out outfit collages on here every time I make one for myself. Hopefully, that will help in keeping this post updated and edgy.
How To Know What Style To Choose
Obviously, not every going out outfit will work for every scenario. You’ll wear something drastically different at a chic bar in NYC than you will at a small-town, casual pub.
There are so many different going out scenarios that it’s hard to say what outfit will work for your specific occasion. I’ll talk about each look beneath the photo and mention what setting I think it would work for, but obviously some of this is trial and error, plus your own knowledge of the area and atmosphere.
Before I go out somewhere, I like to close my eyes and picture what the vibe will be like. Think about what other people will be wearing and see if you can put some words to that style.
You don’t need to copy anyone else, but this will help you figure out what level of dress you want.
For example, leather pants are pretty bold and will only work at trendier venues unless you really tone them down with a sweater or coat. Jeans can be too casual for some places, but are almost necessary at informal bars; you definitely don’t want to show up in a full-on dress and heels.
When in doubt, go with something muted (dark jeans and a simple top with fun booties are always good) that shows a medium amount of skin.
Where To Shop For Night Out Clothing:
I don’t like to spend a ton of money on going out clothes. It’s definitely alluring when you see girls covered in designer stuff, but it just doesn’t make sense when someone might spill on you. Going out clothes aren’t meant to be preserved.
My favorite stores for going out items are:
Shein: For crop tops, chunky slip on booties, and affordable purses
Express: For mom jeans and leather pants
Hello Molly: For super cute going out tops and rompers/jumpsuits
Amazon: For gold-covered jewelry that’s affordable but will last
You can definitely use some of the stuff you have in your closet, especially bodysuits and jeans from years past since the styles haven’t changed too much.

Edgy Leather Outfit:
Top | Pants | Necklace | Hoop Earrings | Purse | Boots
This is obviously a super chic look that calls for a trendy venue. It won’t work for a house party or a small-town pub, but it’s perfect for a speakeasy, sophisticated bar, or even a club.
Corset Blouse Outfit:
Top | Jeans | Necklace 1 | Necklace 2 | Hoop Earrings | Purse | Boots
This is one of my favorite night out outfits with jeans because it toes the line between casual and dressy. You can wear this to a pub (I’d bring a jacket or sweater if it’s chilly out since most people will be more covered) but can also wear it to an edgy bar.

Chunky Crop Top:
Top | Jeans | Necklace 1 | Necklace 2 | Hoop Earrings | Purse | Boots
This is a super edgy but slightly casual look. If you’re doing the trendy bar at nighttime thing then you can easily switch these pants out for grey or faded black jeans. Otherwise, this look works well for dinner, casual bars, house parties, etc.
Black & Nude Look:
Top | Pants | Necklace | Hoop Earrings | Purse | Boots | Lipstick
This is one of the best cute going out outfits for winter. You can wear it almost anywhere, especially in the cold weather! I’ve worn a similar outfit to our local pub but also to a few nicer bars in Boston.
Casual But Edgy Fit:
Top | Jeans | Necklace 1 | Necklace 2 | Hoop Earrings | Purse | Boots
This is a great outfit to wear to dinner then wear out to bars after you’re done. It’s a little bit daytime trendy because of the purse and the jeans, but it transitions perfectly into nighttime due to the corset top and edgy boots.
Sleek Jeans Outfit:
Top | Jeans | Necklace 1 | Necklace 2 | Hoop Earrings | Purse | Boots
This was almost my classic party outfit in college so I can’t believe these tops are back in. What I love about this outfit is how versatile it is. You can literally show up to a pub dressed like this because you’re mostly covered up, but you can also wear this look to a really classy bar and rock it.
Backless Edgy Outfit:
Top | Jeans | Necklace 1 | Necklace 2 | Hoop Earrings | Purse | Boots
I’m loving backless tops lately and this faux leather top adds a little something extra. This is one of my favorite outfits for going out to bars because it’s middle of the road.
I probably wouldn’t wear this fit at a super casual bar but for most medium-type bars it’ll work perfectly.
Comfortable But Trendy Style:
Top | Jeans | Necklace 1 | Necklace 2 | Hoop Earrings | Purse | Boots
This look is super versatile. You can wear it in the summer to a beach bar at night, or you can show up to a trendy city bar in this style. It’s definitely more on the casual/laid-back side.
Long Sleeve Casual:
Top | Jeans | Necklace | Hoop Earrings | Purse | Boots
This is a casual day-to-night look that’s perfect for when you’re going to dinner then going out. It also works really well for house parties or large scale gatherings, especially in the winter since you stay super warm.
Trendy Wearable Fit:
Top | Jeans | Necklace 1 | Necklace 2 | Hoop Earrings | Purse | Boots
This is another one of my favorite night out outfits with jeans. This shirt is my literal favorite going out top from Hello Molly. While I wear it with a lot of different pieces, I really love this combo. It’s definitely chic but doesn’t feel like you’re trying too hard and it looks good on just about every body type.
Leather Bodysuit Oufit:
Bodysuit | Pants | Necklace 1 | Necklace 2 | Hoop Earrings | Purse | Boots
This is one of my classic outfits for going out to bars. You can almost never go wrong with this look. I wouldn’t wear it to super casual pubs, but it works for any typical “going out” night at moderate places.
These muted colors and pieces are almost always in. This is also one of my favorite fall night out outfits because of the color scheme, although it’s great for literally every season.
Lacy Leather Style:
Bodysuit | Pants | Necklace 1 | Necklace 2 | Hoop Earrings | Purse | Boots
This is definitely one of the more unique going out outfits on this list. I have this bodysuit from Shein and really love pairing it with edgy pieces since it’s so girly and delicate. This is definitely an upscale outfit that works for moderate to super trendy bars or casual clubs.
Chunky Casual Style:
Top | Jeans | Necklace | Hoop Earrings | Purse | Boots
This is one of my favorite cute going out outfits for winter. Obviously you can wear it any time of year, but I especially love how it keeps you warm in the cold months. This look is great because it works for most casual bars, house parties, or dinners out while still being super chic and updated. I especially love this chunky purse from Shein!
