Summer is all about the natural makeup look, but it’s also the time we’re most likely to see friends and family. Of course we want to look good; for a lot of us that starts with makeup!
Even though summer makeup trends are about the natural look, the goal is to look healthy and sun-kissed without trying. If you’re like me and almost never go 100% natural, then there are ways to achieve the natural look without swearing off makeup completely.
Every year, the makeup trends change slightly, although natural is always somewhat in. This year the trends are cuter than ever!
Summer Makeup Trends:
Here are the top summer makeup trends this year!
Rosy Finish
The rosy look is super trendy this summer. If you’re choosing between blush or lip colors, go for a rosy peach shade.
Not only is this look perfect for summer because it’s sun-kissed but it makes us all look more healthy, which is always a plus.
Dewy
The dewy finish is still in and isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. You’ll see the dewy finish in lots of these examples. You can add just a bit of dew or go more extreme.
You can use a dewy foundation for an overall dewy look, or you can simply use a dewy setting spray for a lighter, shiny look.
Freckles
TikTok videos make fake freckles a super big trend and they’re still popular this summer. Even adding a few freckles is super cute. This trend works especially well if you have natural freckles that you cover up with makeup!
You can use super inexpensive freckle pen once you’re done with your foundation and powder.
Light Contour
The contoured look is still in, but it isn’t as extreme anymore. Instead, you’ll want a light, natural contour that blends naturally.
Use a cream contour kit for the best natural results.
Natural Look
Of course, the natural look is always trendy in the summer! I find that a light amount of makeup keeps me looking natural and fresh.
I’ll talk more about my tips to achieve the natural look below!
Brushed Soft Eyebrows
Immaculate eyebrows will always cute cute, but soft, natural eyebrows are trendy right now, too. Brush your eyebrows out for a gentle look and lightly color them.
You’ll see plenty of brushed soft eyebrow examples in the photos below.
How To Achieve The Natural Look:
There are so many ways to get the natural makeup look.
First of all, I recommend focusing a bit on skincare before actually applying makeup. The less makeup you need, the better, so healthy, fresh skin is a good start.
If you want to improve your skin, I recommend starting from the inside. A lot of skincare problems (for me, at least) are diet or lifestyle related. For me, eating less dairy has been huge. Hormones are always a good place to start.
Next, you can look into a lot of cool skincare treatments out there such as an IPL facial to get smoother, more even skin.
Even though some skincare products can be helpful at home, I don’t recommend spending a ton of money on them. Most of the time it ends up being a total waste and you’re better off focusing on diet or spa-related treatments.
Another important thing for the natural look is a tan. You can head out into the sun or use self-tanners (whatever you prefer). You don’t need a super dark tan, but there’s something about a light bronze that enhances any type of skin.
Next, I recommend doing the bare minimum amount of makeup. Powder can be helpful if you get super shiny and a good mascara is always a must.
Sometimes I also apply a tiny bit of eyeliner (less than is even visible from the naked eye) and a bit of concealer to hide my under eye circles. Of course, this will depend on your skin and the areas you want to hide versus accentuate.
