Key West hotels are notoriously expensive. In fact, I’d venture to say that lodging is the most expensive thing on the island – food and shopping are relatively cheap compared to other cities. Accommodations are not.
Some of the best hotels in Key West go for over $1,000 a night regularly! In peak season, these prices are even worse.
However, there are still some affordable options. Even some of the resorts in Key West can be affordable if you time your trip just right.
When you stay in cheaper lodging, you’ll compromise on either the amenities or the location. We tend to compromise on the location because most Key West hotels offer free shuttle service to Duval Street, but this is entirely a personal choice.
Overall, Key West isn’t a discount destination. I recommend putting the bulk of your money into your hotel/resort and budgeting during your trip. It’s easy to find affordable food and drink or to walk to free activities.
What Should I Expect To Pay At Key West Hotels?
Pricing at Key West hotels are super variable depending on the exact date of your travel. Expect to pay much more during the winter months.
However, even week to week, pricing can change as much as $300.
I did include basic nightly prices in this post under each resort, but you’ll need to do a bit of research on your specific date to make sure you’re getting a good price.
Key West Hotels Near Duval Street:
Here are some of the best hotels in Key West that are right near Duval Street. They tend to be moderately priced (at least by Key West standards) and have a decent amount of amenities, yet they’re all within walking distance of downtown.
For resorts in Key West or more affordable options, scroll down to the next few sections of this post.
The Saint Hotel Key West
The Saint is one of my favorite hotels right off Duval Street. It’s a super swanky hotel that’s best for adults with 36 rooms.
If you want to be near Duval Street and Mallory Square, then the Saint is a great option. Even though it’s near the action, this hotel feels like a secret spot as soon as you step inside.
The rooms are small but clean and nicely decorated. They have a swanky vibe that feels like you’re in the city. They can be a tiny bit loud at night due to the proximity to Duval, but you can work with the staff to get a quieter room if that’s something you need.
I really love the lobby bar at the Saint! Eric is an awesome bartender (he makes amazing craft cocktails), but the rooftop bar is also a fun spot. The food at the hotel’s restaurant is really unique, trendy, and fresh.
The Saint does have a small pool area that’s perfect for a quick dip or a day of sunbathing. You can use their free bikes for 4 hours increments if you’d rather jaunt around town, but you’re definitely close enough to walk to just about every main attraction.
Overall, the Saint is a great option for a hotel that’s right downtown. You’re not going to get a massive resort right on Duval, but this boutique hotel is upscale and clean, and even a bit trendy.
This is one of my favorite mid-priced Key West hotels that’s near the action but upscale. It’s the perfect medium for travelers who want to save money but still enjoy the vacation.
You probably won’t want to choose the Saint if you’re traveling with kids. The vibe is upscale and a bit more adult, however there are tons of great family-friendly hotels in Key West that I’ll include on this list!
Good For: Couples, friend Groups, adult Groups
Price: Around $500 a night.
The Curry Mansion
With 28 super unique guest rooms in three different mansion structures, the Curry Mansion is a great option that’s close to Duval Street and has a bit of everything.
The Mansion is a bit of a historical landmark in Key West. Tourists come for daily tours to view the common areas and the grounds, which is convenient because Curry Mansion is located only steps from Duval Street.
Regular rates include a full breakfast each morning by the pool/deck area (where cocktails are also served daily), complete with made-to-order omelets. Guests are also invited to a nightly two-hour cocktail party with beer, wine, and an open liquor bar, as well as snacks and entertainment.
The Curry Mansion offers a lot of perks for being one of the best hotels in Key West that’s right near Duval street. You can use the computer and printer as well as the laundry room, if needed.
There are many different types of rooms in the Mansion, including tropically designed residences and family-style rooms with extra daybeds and a full porch or balcony. You can choose what room you’d like and experience an entirely different vibe each time you stay.
The rooms are small but cozy. They have amazing AC (which isn’t always the case at hotels in Key West) and awesome shower water pressure.
The Mansion also has lots of off-street parking, which is very hard to find, especially this close to Duval street!
Unlike other Key West hotels near Duval, the Curry Mansion is relatively quiet at night and feels like it’s secluded from the craziness of the main strip.
Although I love the amenities at Curry Mansion, it’s really the staff and the vibe that make me enjoy this hotel. The staff is so friendly and helpful. They even have a cat named Rusty who hangs out at the Mansion and makes friends with the guests.
I especially recommend the Curry Mansion if you want to socialize with other guests. Most guests love the daily happy hour, which the owners created to bring guests together. This is really the true B&B experience.
Lastly, the Curry Mansion is said to be haunted by a friendly ghost; a woman stands on the stairs and is spotted from time-to-time. If you’re into the Key West ghost stories then that’s another perk!
Good For: Couples, adults, anyone who wants to socialize with other guests
Price: $300 per night
Key West Harbor Inn
Only two blocks from Duval Street, the Key West Harbor Inn is an adult-only comfortable yet elegant Mansion. It is secluded and gated, so you get a bit of quiet paradise while staying near the action.
The Key West Harbor Inn feels like a private jungle when you step inside. This property is truly an oasis right near Duval Street!
The vibe is tropical yet slightly Victorian, in true upscale Key West fashion. This is one of the best hotels in Key West for travelers who want to stay in an upscale mansion.
The Key West Harbor Inn has a heated/cooled pool, sundecks, lavish gardens, and a complimentary nightly happy hour by the pool. The pool itself is a relatively large size, especially compared to other Key West hotels right downtown.
If you do need to get around, you can rent bikes right at the hotel.
The rooms themselves include free wifi, a mini-fridge, private bathrooms, a coffee maker, a wet bar, and gorgeous Key West decor with rich bamboo ceilings.
The bedrooms are very clean; some have private balconies, and you can choose the room you’d like ahead of time, since they’re all a little different.
If you’re looking for the classic Key West vibe (a bit Victorian with lush gardens, open windows, and ceiling fans), then you’ll love the Key West Harbor Inn. It reminds me a lot of the Hemingway House, somewhere I’ve always wished I could stay!
Good For: Anyone who wants an upscale, classic Key West vibe
Price: $225-$350 depending on season
Parrot Key Hotel & Villas
Though the Parrot Key Hotel & Villas is a bit further out from Duval Street, it’s still quite walkable. The distance makes the property a bit larger; this is one of the most upscale hotels that’s close enough to walk and isn’t insanely expensive.
The Parrot Key Hotel is great for large groups since you can get up to 3 bedroom villas. Most of the rooms have a lot of private and private porches.
It’s also a great spot if you want to be right on the water. Most of the resorts are a bit further away, so the Parrot Key is the perfect mix between resort vibes and location.
The Parrot Key has a mid-sized pool with lots of chairs and a pool bar on site. It’s one of the best hotels in Key West for a pool day that’s also walkable to Duval.
The rooms themselves are very clean and private. You can get anything from a medium-sized one bedroom to a three level villa. The bedrooms are all decorated in neutral (beige and white) coastal decor.
Right outside each of the rooms, you’ll step into plush white sand. You can lay in a hammock, relax on a lounge chair, or chill on your porch and listen to the sounds of nature and Key West.
The Parrot Key is a great option for a hotel that’s a bit larger/more resort-like but is still walkable to Duval!
Good For: Groups, anyone who wants larger/more private rooms
Price: Anywhere from $350-$800 a night, depending on the room and season. Check every weekend because the prices change dramatically.
The Marquesa Hotel
If you’re looking for a combination of a boutique hotel and casual Key West restaurant, then you’ll love the Marquesa Hotel.
It’s located right in the historic district of Old Town and consists of two locations right across the street from each other. The Marquesa is a 4 star hotel, so it’s a bit more luxurious than other Key West hotels downtown.
The Marquesa has three gorgeous, sparkling pools surrounded but lush gardens. Guests call it the Garden of Eden, and you’ll see why as soon as you enter!
This compound is a quiet retreat that feels like luxury, yet it’s only steps away from Duval.
The rooms are decorated in various styles of coastal decor and are all a bit different, so you should look at the options when you book to choose your room. However, all of the rooms are intimate and have a certain level of ambiance.
Everything at the Marquesa feels brand new, yet the hotel also feels family owned. In general, the vibe is very romantic!
The Marquesa is one of the best hotels in Key West if you’re looking for a gorgeous pool and gardens in a location that’s close to Duval.
Good For: Couples, anyone looking for a quiet, intimate stay
Price: Incredibly variable. Anywhere from $400 per night to $900.
Kimpton Key West
The Kimpton is located in Old Town, but there are five distinct properties, so you can choose the exact location and vibe that you want.
Winslow’s Bungalows is the best Kimpton property for families and larger groups. It has three private pools, an outdoor bar, and various rooms with patios.
Ridley House is a private estate that’s a bit quieter; it’s perfect for couples or honeymooners.
Ella’s Cottages is one of the best hotels in Key West that’s in the art district. It’s a bit eclectic and is a good choice for anyone who wants to do some sightseeing rather than just relax.
The Lighthouse Hotel is one of my personal favorite Key West hotels. It’s located right next to the lighthouse and near the Hemingway house, and is a boutique hotel with ultra-upscale, white accommodations and a gorgeous pool.
Lastly, Fitch Lodge is the most informal property. It’s a bohemian style conch-house lodging in a residential neighborhood. Fitch Lodge is a bit more casual and affordable, and has that relaxed Key West vibe that many tourists love.
All of the properties are vaguely bohemian style and boast glittering pools and lush gardens.
The more upscale properties are located right in the heart of Old Town, yet they manage to maintain incredible pool areas, so each spot feels like a private oasis.
Good For: Just about everyone!
Price: Typically more expensive, $500-$1000 per night
Truman Hotel
The Truman Hotel is a boutique style property that’s only one block off Duval street. It’s a great spot for budget travelers; parking is even included.
The Truman Hotel has a great courtyard/pool area that tends to be super sunny, with various seating options. The pool itself is heated and is open really late compared to other Key West hotels.
The rooms at the Truman are furnished in bold, tropical colors with zebra rugs. The vibe is definitely modern and chic!
One of the biggest perks at the Truman is the bathrooms. Every room features a bathroom with tile showers, glass doors, and marble countertops; the bathrooms are extremely spacious for a hotel that’s right downtown.
Overall, the Truman is one of the best hotels in Key West for young adults. It has a super chic vibe, though some older adults tend to enjoy this too, especially those who like city vibes.
The Truman can be a bit noisy, but remember that you’re right in the center of the action. It’s one of the best budget options downtown but doesn’t feel like a motel, as the property is clean and upscale.
Good for: Young adults, anyone who likes the city vibe, budget travelers
Price: Start at $180; very affordable, even in the on-season
Key West Resorts:
Unlike other places in the world, resorts in Key West are ultra expensive. You can expect to spend a lot more than normal for a resort that is smaller than you’d imagine.
In fact, resorts in Key West tend to feel more like upscale hotels and less like true resorts. They’re impressive because they manage to spring up on a small island, but even the most upscale resorts in Key West won’t have 9+ pools and 6+ restaurants.
You will get all of the classic perks from staying at resorts in Key West. For example, most resorts boast ultra-clean accommodations, spacious rooms, larger heated pools, private beaches, restaurants and bars on-site, etc.
Pier House Resort & Spa
All the way at the end of Duval Street sits the Pier House Resort & Spa, a beautiful 4-star resort that’s close to downtown but still feels private and quiet.
The Pier House has simple rooms that are light in airy; some have balconies, or you can spring for an ocean view. There are also luxury suites that are a huge step up if you want to spend the money.
In general, the decor is clean and white with Victorian touches. It’s one of the best hotels in Key West for upscale decor with slight historical vibes.
The Pier House does have a small private beach that is quite relaxing. It’s a beautiful place to catch the sunset.
The beach is artificially made, so it’s very calm with little to no waves. The Pier House also has a truly beautiful pool area. This is one of the best Key West hotels on the beach i you want to swim and relax!
The Pier House also has amazing food and drinks at the several restaurants on the property. We love the beach bar, which serves ice cold drinks and often has live music.
Ultimately, the Pier House is perfect for families, couples, and everyone in between!
Best For: Everyone.
Price: About $650 per night on average
The Perry Hotel Key West
Just one bridge away from Old Town is the Perry Hotel. Though it’s just a short drive, it has over 40 acres and is one of the best resorts in Key West for the full resort experience.
The Perry has two waterfront pools, an on-site marina, an array of dockside restaurants and bars, and various water activities right at the resort.
I especially love the massive lawn. The Perry often holds events on the lawn, like concerts and yoga classes.
There are various restaurants on-site that have amazing fresh fish options and incredible craft cocktails.
Though the Perry is a bit further out from downtown, this is really one of the best places to get the full resort experience, plus the hotel offers a free shuttle to get to Duval.
Price: $700 a night on average
Southernmost Beach Resort
If you’re looking for resorts in Key West near the downtown area then the Southernmost Beach Resort is a good option. It’s located near the Southernmost point (shockingly), so you can hop right over to Duval Street.
The grounds at the Southernmost Beach Resort are truly beautiful. The resort has over 6 acres of lush gardens and even has access to a small beach right across the street.
The Southernmost Beach Resort has two pools, a pier that gives you access to a sandbar for swimming, and direct beach access with free chair rentals.
Many guests choose to spend their days lounging by the water, checking out the downtown, or fishing. The cafe chef will cook fresh fish that you catch and serve it as a meal, which is a fun perk.
If you get a room with a view, you can watch sunset right from your balcony. However, you can also pop over to the beach for incredibly glorious twilight views.
The Southernmost Beach Resort is relatively quiet for a resort that has easy access to Duval street. The rooms are modern and well-decorated, and the hotel offers free breakfast and refreshments in the afternoon.
Though the Southernmost Beach Resort isn’t as luxurious as some of the resorts in Key West that are further out, it’s a great choice for an upscale property that’s within walking distance of all the attractions.
Good For: Anyone who wants to stay close to Duval but wants resort vibes.
Price: $500 ish a night
Barbary Beach House
If you’re looking for an affordable, clean, modern resort that’s right across the street from a beach, then the Barbary Beach House is a great choice.
The Barbary is known for a great pool and beach area. The pool is surrounded by cabanas, a bar, and offers wonderful poolside service.
However, the hotel offers a variety of customer-service oriented perks, too. Enjoy the mango slushy drink that you receive at check-in as well as complimentary chocolate chip cookies and citrus water.
The Barbary is decorated in a Caribbean adventure theme, yet the decor is all super high-end and upscale.
The rooms themselves are especially nice and spacious compared to other resorts in Key West. If you’re traveling with a crew, you can definitely fit 1-2 extra people on the pullout couch.
There are lots of fun activities on site as well, like the sunset dolphin snorkeling trip and various water activities.
The Barbary offers free shuttle service to the airport and downtown. This makes it easy to get around, even though the resort is a bit far out from Duval Street.
I especially recommend the Barbary if you really want a beach vacation. It’s across the street from Smathers Beach, which is one of the best beaches in Key West, so you’ll only need to worry about catching the shuttle to go downtown.
Keep in mind that the Barbary is one of the smaller resorts in Key West. The property only has one restaurant and one pool, but the prices are a bit cheaper, plus you have the beach right across the street.
Good For: Anyone who wants a beach vacation.
Price: $400 ish a night
Opal Key Resort
The Opal Key Resort used to be the Margaritaville Resort but has recently been rebranded. It’s one of the most classic hotels in Key West and is a gorgeous 4-star resort that’s within walking distance of Duval.
The Opal Key boasts an incredible location and gorgeous views, especially during sunset.
However, it’s also one of the best resorts in Key West to walk around because the property is huge. There are tons of shops, restaurants, and a full marina with incredible yachts to check out.
The vibe at the Opal Key is super high end. It’s right on the water and doesn’t have a beach, but it’s on a marina so the location is perfect for water sports, boat rentals, and charters. I would say the vibe is city-chic.
I especially love the eggs Benedict at the restaurant on the water, Bistro 245. However, the Sunset Deck is a fun spot for the sunset or a waterside lunch.
The rooms are decorated in tropical coastal colors and are quite spacious. The pool is a bit smaller and has limited loungechairs, but I tend to think that the Opal Key is a place to stay for the activities.
Lastly, try to get a reservation at Latitudes Restaurant on Sunset Key, which is run by the Opal Key Resort. It’s an ultra-exclusive, romantic spot that is truly the prime pinnacle of Key West.
Good For: Anyone who wants a super upscale, city-chic resort vibe.
Price: $500 ish a night
Ocean’s Edge Resort & Marina
If you want to stay at one of the most upscale resorts in Key West then the Ocean’s Edge Resort is your place.
The property has incredible rooms and suites, swimming pools, various restaurants, water activities, and truly beautiful views. Downtown is just a short shuttle ride away.
The waterfront dining and bars are a special staple of the Ocean’s Edge Resort. The patios for dining are truly beautiful, and the fish is all served fresh, right off the boat.
Every single room has ocean views! This is one of the best resorts in Key West because the rooms are so new – the property was recently built in 2017.
There are various types of rooms available, from single rooms to mini condos. The decor is very high end (white and navy), though each compound features slightly different decor.
The Ocean’s Edge has six heated swimming pools with ultra-comfortable lounge chairs. I definitely recommend making use of the pools because there isn’t a beach within walking distance.
The resort is only a short drive away from Duval Street. However, you can also rent golf carts to get around.
I really love how the Ocean’s Edge Resort is off the beaten path. It has a quiet vibe and feels more like your classic tropical resort than other resorts in Key West.
Good For: Anyone who wants a high end resort property.
Price: $450
Most Affordable Hotels In Key West:
Key West hotels can be really expensive, so most people need to look for more affordable options.
When you stay at one of the more affordable hotels in Key West, consider that either the quality of the hotel (including the amenities) or the location will have to be compromised on.
I tend to compromise on location, because many of the hotels further out from Duval are half the price and offer free shuttles. However, if you don’t care about large rooms or having a big pool area, then you may compromise on amenities in order to stay right near Duval.
Here are some of my favorite affordable Key West hotels, both close to Duval and further out.
Keep in mind that every Key West hotel is a bit more expensive than resorts in other areas, so you’ll still spend at least a few hundred dollars a night. If you’re looking for cheaper options, scroll down further to check out some of my favorite VRBO options.
NYAH
The NYAH is a pretty famous adults-only hotel in Key West. Although it isn’t right on the water, it’s only a five minute walk away, and is super close to downtown.
The NYAH has a jacuzzi as well as three small pools. The courtyard area is super cute, with plenty of patio space and palm trees that make it feel homey.
I especially love the sundeck! Another perk is that the pools don’t close until midnight.
The rooms themselves have more of a hostel vibe. Most have bunk beds, even if they aren’t shared, so don’t expect super upscale accommodations.
However, this is one of the most famous budget Key West hotels for a reason! The location and amenities are great if you’re willing to compromise on the rooms.
Good For: Anyone who likes hostel vibes.
Price: $150
DoubleTree Resort By Hilton
We love staying at the DoubleTree. It’s a short drive from downtown, on the other side of the island, but it’s the best “mini” resort in Key West that’s affordable, and it’s always up to Hilton standards.
The rooms are clean and spacious. While the DoubleTree isn’t close to a beach, the pool is pretty large and has a variety of lounge chairs, as well as cabanas and an outdoor bar.
The DoubleTree isn’t exactly a resort, but it’s not a budget hotel, either, yet the prices are relatively low.
We enjoy staying here as a home base while we spend our days exploring the downtown. The free shuttle is reliable to get to Duval! Plus, parking is free at the DoubleTree, which isn’t the case at many other Key West hotels.
If you do want to stay at the hotel, there’s lots of outdoor seating and a bar where you can grab a drink any time of day. However, the only meal served there when we stayed was breakfast.
As far as affordable hotels in Key West go, the DoubleTree is definitely my preferred hotel, especially if you’re willing to compromise on location.
Good For: Anyone who wants an upscale resort and doesn’t mind driving to Duval.
Price: $320
The Southernmost Inn
The Southernmost Inn is the most affordable equivalent of the resort. It’s an adult-only 2-star inn that’s located right near the Southernmost point.
Most people stay at the Southernmost Inn for the location. Otherwise, you should definitely be prepared to stay in a 2-star inn.
The Southernmost Inn does have a pool area that’s beautiful and secluded, which includes a hot tub.
The rooms are sparse but tend to be clean. This is one of the best hotels in Key West for the location, but the rooms do the trick and are quiet and safe at night.
Prices at the Southernmost Inn tend to go way up on holidays, so be careful that you don’t pay too much. However, the regular prices are reasonable if you’re looking for a hotel that’s right in the heat of the action.
Best For: Anyone who wants to stay right downtown and doesn’t mind motel-vibes.
Price: $230
Duval Inn
The Duval Inn is located only a block from Duval Street, hence the name! It’s a small, cute inn with a homey touch.
The Duval Inn offers free cocktails during happy hour as well as a free daily breakfast.
The courtyard is super cute and is decorated with seashells, while the pool is truly lush and surrounded by greenery. Even though the property is small, it feels like you’ve stepped into a coastal oasis.
Each room is individually decorated. Some have kitchens and can be adjoined for larger groups. However, note that the bungalows do share a bedroom.
The Duval Inn is one of the hotels in Key West that offers parking, but you need to book a spot in advance.
In general, the Duval Inn is one of the cutest Key West hotels with a historic B&B vibe. It’s surrounded by a white picket fence and features a lawn filled with tropical flowering trees.
Though the decor is vaguely Victorian, the features are quite new. I really think that Duval Inn is one of the best hotels in Key West if you’re looking for an affordable yet upscale B&B option!
Best For: Anyone who wants a budget option that’s cozy and homey downtown.
Price: $270
Eden House
The biggest perk of Eden House is that it’s located right in Old Key West. In fact, this boutique hotel is only about a 12 minute walk away from Duval Street.
Eden House has a heated pool, a jacuzzi, hammocks, porch swings, gorgeous waterfalls, a sundeck, and lush gardens. The property also boasts free off-street parking and a super cute cafe.
Like many of the downtown Key West hotels, Eden House has a daily happy hour by the pool. The courtyard itself is super cute, surrounded by palm trees, and the small tiki bar is truly adorable.
I especially love the koi ponds. For such an affordable price, Eden House is one of the best hotels in Key West because it has so many perks! You can spend a lot of time right at the hotel.
The rooms themselves are relatively plain, but they do the trick. Eden House doesn’t have a spa or fitness center, however the hotel offers free passes to a nearby gym for all guests.
Out of all the Key West hotels, Eden House is well-known for customer service. It has been owned by the same person for almost 40 years and has a group of loyal customers who return year after year.
Best For: Anyone who wants the true Key West vibe without the large price tag.
Price: $245
24 North Hotel
If you don’t mind staying a bit further away from Duval, 24 North Hotel is a great option. It has an authentic, island-themed vibe and a gorgeous pool.
Though 24 North is too far from Duval to walk, the hotel offers free shuttles.
Keep in mind that 24 North has motel vibes, yet they also have a lot of amenities that aren’t consistent with a motel, like a large pool and a bar.
This is definitely one of the best hotels in Key West for pool parties. The pool bar is a huge perk!
The rooms themselves are basic but the price is usually quite reasonable. The ocean is also close by for morning walks!
Best For: Budget travelers who want a fun pool party vibe
Price: $250
Andrews Inn & Garden
This Inn is a tropical paradise! It’s located just next to the Hemingway house and has the lush gardens that you dream of when you picture Key West hotels.
Plus, the Andrews Inn & Garden is just off Duval Street. This is a great budget option for a hotel that’s still clean and lush!
The Andrews Inn only has six B&B rooms with private bathrooms, so you get a super personal touch.
The pool area is secluded and quiet (the pool itself is saltwater), surrounded by a tropical courtyard, and is the perfect place to have your complimentary poolside breakfast.
Guests are also invited to a daily afternoon “social hour” with champagne and snacks.
Other perks include free on-site parking, bike rental, and concierge services.
The hallmark of the Andrews Inn is the customer service. The owners are so nice and hospitable, and the vibe is simply quaint and personal.
Best For: Couples or small groups who want a quieter, more personal vacation.
Price: $350
Angelina Guest House
Angelina Guest House is a quaint house near the lighthouse and marker mile 0. It’s only .2 miles from Duval!
Some of the perks include a refrigerator and AC in the guest rooms, as well as free wifi and a continental breakfast.
Angelina Guest House only offers street parking, but the staff will definitely help you find a spot.
The guest house does have a super cute pool area, plus the pool is open 24 hours a day, which is practically unheard of for Key West hotels.
The rooms tend to be clean and comfortable. Some do share a bathroom, so you’ll want to check out your options before booking.
Overall, this is one of the best hotels in Key West if you’re looking for a super affordable option with a personal touch and the ideal location.
Price: $160
Caribbean House
This affordable B&B is right in the heart of Old Town, so you’re getting a prime location. In fact, Caribbean House is only 2 blocks from Duval.
However, Caribbean House does have a lot of perks, like complimentary breakfast, free wifi, and off-street parking for $15 per day.
Caribbean House is walking distance to Mallory Square and Fort Zachary Taylor State Park.
The rooms and the bathrooms at Caribbean House are on the smaller side, but they’re cozy and clean. The property also has a super tiny tiki bar out back that’s so cute!
Out of all the affordable hotels in Key West, Caribbean House has the true local vibe. It’s definitely not a resort, but you will get the real feel for what it’s like to live in the Keys.
Good For: Anyone who wants to live like a local.
Price: $215
Best Vrbo Options In Key West:
If you’re short on cash and want to keep your trip affordable, VRBO is definitely your best bet. Airbnbs are super expensive in Key West and have a whole host of fees. I’ve found VRBO to be reasonable compared to many other properties!
Again, you won’t find a gorgeous VRBO for next to nothing. This is Key West, so every type of accommodation costs more than it should.
However, compared to some of the mainstream hotels, VRBOs are super affordable! You can also stay on a boat (typically docked at a Key West marina) and save a bunch of money while having a cool vacation.
Stay on a boat. VRBO Vacation Rentals.
I’ll list some of our favorite spots to stay here.
Best VRBOS For Couples:

Tips For Choosing Hotels In Key West:
A number of hotels are available in Key West, Florida. Many different places to stay can be found on the island. You need to do your homework before you decide which place will make you happiest while your stay there.
The first thing that you should consider when choosing a hotel is location. Choose a spot that is close to all of the things that you want to do while you are in Key West. If the area is not exactly where you wanted it to be, then don’t feel like there is no other option but to stay there. The rates for rooms may also vary from spot to spot on the island, so take some time to shop around as well before deciding on a location.
If you have a large budget, then staying at a high-end hotel would be nice. Many great amenities and conveniences can be found at these hotels and it may make your trip even better than what you expected it to be.
Other travelers typically stay at high-end hotels when they visit Key West because of how pleasant everything seems to run. You need to decide what level of hotel to stay at based on what is right for your budget, though.
If you’re going to splurge, I recommend spending on the hotel – everything else is pretty cheap, but some of the hotels in Key West can be really bad.
When deciding on where to stay in Key West, Florida, think about which restaurants serve food that will suit your taste buds the best. If you have any food allergies, then you need to make sure that the restaurants in the area are going to be able to accommodate those needs.
Keep in mind that hotels typically serve breakfast and lunch on their properties too if eating there will save you some money from eating out at other times of the day.
Double-check how much your room rate covers when deciding on a hotel to stay in. Many hotels will charge an additional fee if you use any items that they offer during your stay like internet service, parking lots or even the swimming pools.
Look over the contract before anything else so you know what you are going to be paying for ahead of time. These charges may be included in the initial total price or they could be listed separately on top of it, so make sure that no surprises come along later. Resort fees can be massive in Florida!
If you have pets with you while traveling to Key West, Florida, then choosing a pet friendly hotel is essential. You don’t want to leave them at home alone all day or send them off with someone while you’re out and about.
Just look for those hotels that allow pets to stay there, but mention in advance what type of pet you have and any special circumstances that they may have. Remember that not all hotels will allow all breeds and types of pets!
When staying at a hotel, it is easy to relax because everything is going to be handled for you. You don’t need to worry about cooking or cleaning anything while you are on vacation.
