Wondering what to wear to an amusement park? If you’re looking for theme park/amusement park outfits that are cute and functional, you’ve come to the right place!
When it comes to amusement and theme parks, what you wear will define your whole experience. Knowing you look cute and feel comfortable will give you more freedom for movement.
For example, a heavy cotton shirt may soak up too much sweat in the summer. A mini skirt is definitely not something you would want to wear if you dare to ride the 360s. And a pair of heeled boots or slippers may not be the best footwear to consider if you’re walking around the park the whole day. Of course, looking too comfortable with sweats or loungewear may not give you the best pictures.
Don’t worry if this sounds complicated! In this article, we’ll give you a list of styling techniques and must-have pieces for every season. Read on to learn what to wear to an amusement park or theme park!
What To Wear To An Amusement In The Spring
Spring can be as tough as fall. Known as a transitional season when the breeze is just dissipating, early spring can be as cold as winter. That’s why layers are crucial during this time.
Shorts, tank tops, and tube tops may not be your best options. If you want to include them in your fit, then the best you can do is make them a layering base. You can add a light jacket or a flannel button-down over it.
Spring would also be a great time to wear overalls and boiler suits since the thick fabric can give enough thermal support. For your footwear, you might want to opt for sports sneakers over slippers or sandals during this time of year. Fluctuating weather and unexpected rainfall also happen frequently during the spring, so a handy pocketable rain jacket and an emergency umbrella are helpful.
If it does get warmer during the day, you can simply tie your jacket around your waist and go about your day. Don’t bother bringing an extra bag for that. As much as possible, keeping your hands free from bags or totes can give you a much better park experience.
We’ve shared lots of amusement park outfits below that work perfectly for springtime weather. When in doubt, focus on layers that you can easily stuff in a bag or theme park locker.
What To Wear To An Amusement In The Summer
Summer is the best time to be outside. Think cute tops, tube tops, shorts, and dressy cropped tops! Nothing can compare to the freedom of wearing cute pieces without having to worry about freezing. However, you still might have to consider bringing a light cover-up to protect your precious skin from the harsh rays of the sun. If you’re sightseeing, walking, or waiting in line for your turn at the rides, UV protection, and a cover-up are must-haves. A sunburn is not pretty or fun!
As simple as summer theme park outfits may look, you actually have to be more intentional about picking your pieces. Shirts or tops should be made of breathable fabric, mesh fabric, or linen to allow your skin to breathe. Wearing light colors can also help regulate heat in your body.
White, pastel pink, baby blue, and periwinkle are just some of my favorite colors to wear during summer. Pastel colors can also reflect the flowers in bloom, which makes pastel a very fitting color to wear. Generally, you would want to avoid black and navy blue in your amusement park outfits, unless they’re jeans/shorts.
What To Wear To An Amusement In The Fall
Fall is almost like spring, only backward. Instead of the cold dissipating, it is only starting. Choosing the pieces to wear depends on when you are visiting the park. Early fall (commonly September in most US states) tends to be confusing since summer is still transitioning to the cold months. The month when this occurs may be different for every country, but more or less it’s between November and December.
Fall is one of my favorite seasons for layering. Although spring is technically similar to fall, fall tends to be a lot cozier as it leans forward to the coldest season of the year. When visiting theme parks, I like to wear thermal leggings and a good-quality cotton shirt as a base. If it gets colder, I like to bring a leather or denim jacket.
While it is tempting to wear baggy or oversized sweaters, these can be quite hazardous. A part of fabric can get stuck somewhere – and that’s the last thing you would want to happen during a theme park visit. If you do end up wearing extra large clothes, be mindful of where you pass.
What To Wear To A Theme Park In The Winter
Next to summer, winter is probably the most interesting time to visit an amusement/theme park because of the bright holidays. Colorful lights are everywhere, people and staff are extra friendly, and there’s a holiday-themed bonanza going on everywhere. Visiting theme parks during the holiday season is absolutely a different experience. However, it’s also one of the coldest times.
During this time of year, layers matter. Wearing one piece of clothing can be bothersome, and fighting the cold while trying to have fun is the worst thing that can happen. To keep the layers minimal, opt for a thermal base and build your outfit from that.
Overalls that give maximum thermal support and dark-colored clothing are just some of the pieces you might want to look for. Just keep in mind to avoid doing bulky layers so you can fit the rides. Loose scarves can be hazardous too, so put that away when you get on the rides or wear a gaiter-style scarf instead.
For your footwear, opt for practical shoes, like hiking or waterproof shoes, to walk on possibly slippery surfaces. Any shoes with Gore-tex material can also help your feet stay dry the whole time. And of course, Uggs always keep you warm.
Theme Park Outfits Must-Haves
When it comes to theme park outfits, the key to bliss is comfort and movement. If the piece shows signs of restraint and inconvenience, it’s only common sense to drop it for something more comfortable. But there’s no reason why you should forget about killer combos and fashion styling. In this list, you’ll find all the pieces you might need for a theme park fit along with a brief styling guide.
White Cotton T-shirt
If there’s a piece that I recommend the most, then it would be a simple white cotton t-shirt. Other colors are great, but during the warm months, any other color can absorb heat easily. This can in turn leaves you more dehydrated and sweaty in a short period of time. The best thing about a white tee is that you can pair them with any bottoms – jeans, skorts, shorts, and more.
Biker shorts are the direct alternative to the more familiar sports leggings. Biker shorts are great options during the summer months when the heat makes it impossible to wear anything beyond the length of the torso to the knee. However, you might have to make an additional effort to put on sunscreen to avoid the chances of burning exposed skin. Biker shorts would look great with an oversized tee and sneakers.
Looking for theme park outfits that are super cute and chic? Cropped tops make movement flow easier. Long/big shirts and tucked blouses can be a little inconvenient, especially if you’re riding big rides and doing complicated stunts. Cropped tops can also be very airy, and it’s easy to dry off in case you plan on riding those wet water slide rides. Depending on the fit, a cropped top can be paired with equally airy bottoms, leggings, or shorts.
The last thing you would want to wear to an amusement park is a fitted shirt, at least if you want to be super comfortable. A fitted shirt can often lead to body consciousness which can restrain movement. An oversized shirt embodies youthful confidence and freedom. Changing into bigger clothing can also change the mood on a positive note – which is, after all, the main goal of visiting amusement parks.
This is one of my favorite oversized amusement park outfits that’s super cute while allowing for maximum comfort.
Distressed shorts are great pieces for adding variety, layers, and texture to your outfit. This also gives any outfit the ‘oomph’ it needs without much fuss. Perfect for summer outings, distressed shorts can be worn with a cropped top, a halter top, or an oversized shirt. I like to pair distressed shorts with white canvas shoes or Jordans.
If you want a bit more coverage with your amusement park outfits, a pair of ripped jeans are the answer. Ripped jeans look playful, experimental, and youthful – deriving from the year of its rise, the era of punk. Ripped jeans with larger holes are also an opportunity to add an additional layer with fishnet stockings. A cropped top would look good with this ensemble as well. This redirects the focus to the lower part of your body.
Wondering what to wear to an amusement park in the transitional months? If you’re dressing for a spring or fall visit, then a handy dandy denim jacket is your best friend. It’s stylish and it matches the aesthetic of most amusement parks.
I like to wear denim jackets with denim or leather pants, depending on how warm or cold it will be. When the weather fluctuates, you can easily wrap it around your waist for a nice layering accent. In fact, I definitely recommend incorporating a denim jacket into your theme park outfits if at all possible!
What’s easier than wearing sweatpants is opting for a pair of drawstring shorts. They may look like loungewear, but worn with the right pieces, you can make them work wonderfully with your amusement park outfits.
For drawstring shorts, I like to wear them with a white tank top or t-shirt, white sneakers, and a themed cap. If you’re going to a Disney park, you can wear a Minnie Mouse headband, for instance. For a little more coverage, you can wear or wrap a denim jacket around your waist. This also gives you more security when the weather decides to fluctuate in the middle of your visit.
Overalls are edgy, stylish, and youthful, which makes them a great piece to consider when wondering what to wear to an amusement park. Good quality overalls also make wardrobe malfunctions out of the picture. They’re great for riding daredevil rides or simply for gallivanting around the park.
To style them as park of your theme park outfits, you can wear them with a cropped baby tee and sneakers. For cold months, you can also wear a hoodie sweatshirt underneath. Combat boots are also great, considering that you’ve broken in them before your theme park visit.
If you’re going on a once-in-a-lifetime theme park experience, there’s no reason to dress lousy. A button-down may be the last piece that you would wear, but with the right fabric, you can actually make it work. I usually recommend Flannel – especially in cold, breezy months. You can use it as a cover-up or tie it around your waist for a nice accent. If it’s rather warm, skip this part. Drenching in sweat is not a good idea!
If you dare to choose utmost comfort, then you might have considered wearing sweatpants. Wearing sweatpants may either look sloppy or polished – depending on how you style them. To look ‘tall’ and polished in them, pair with a contrasting piece like a fitted cropped top. Tie a jacket or wear a belt bag for an accent, and finish off with a pair of Jordans or any similar sports sneakers.
Black jeans are lifesavers because they literally go with every top in your closet! Cropped tops, tank tops, peplum blouses, and more. For theme/amusement park visits, I usually recommend wearing ripped or distressed black jeans. They embody the casual, enthusiastic, and youthful energy of these fun parks. I also think it’s a great icebreaker for anyone who plans to keep their top plain and simple.
Nothing is better than unlimited freedom of movement. Leggings are particularly made for this purpose. And if you’re looking to be spontaneous, then a pair of these can benefit your purpose. A probable example of a spontaneous decision would be getting on waterslides or wet riding experiences. Leggings easily dry off, so there’s no need to change if it isn’t fully soaked.
Have you ever experienced months when it’s neither too warm nor too cold? Spring and fall might be the types of seasons to come out like this. Particularly, these are the best days to wear a sleeveless turtleneck blouse. Not too covered up, but enough to keep the random chills at bay. A sleeveless turtleneck can be paired with high-waisted shorts, ripped jeans
Looking for summer theme park outfits that are still super cute? Tank tops are summer lifesavers. They’re both airy and comfortable, and there’s nothing better than that feeling – especially if you’re in an amusement/theme park during this time of year.
Because tank tops are quite too casual for pictures, you can pair them with something bold or accented, like these shorts. Either piece can add character to your outfit!
This is one of my favorite amusement park outfits that’s cute but also a little grungy. Tube tops are versatile and stylish altogether. They give the perfect contrast to baggy jeans, sweatpants, cargo pants, and culottes. Tube tops keep the upper part of the body petite, driving the eye to the lower bottom of the body.
Women with pear and inverted triangle bodies especially benefit from tube tops. Investing in a black and white tube top is a considerable option, especially if you’re into statement pants and baggy silhouettes. They also provide sufficient freedom of movement, which makes them a perfect addition to your theme park outfits.
Want to look feminine and chic, even with shorts? Skorts are the answer to incorporate into your amusement park outfits! Skorts were inspired by the original tennis skirt, which allows flexibility and movement without the worry of unwanted exposure.
Skorts would look great with a fitted top or a turtleneck blouse. They’re perfect for summer, late spring, and early fall. The best footwear to finish off an outfit with skorts are canvas sneakers.
White Canvas sneakers
The perfect shoes to wear to an amusement park are definitely white canvas sneakers. They’re laid-back, relaxed, and comfortable. Above all, white canvas sneakers look stylish and seamless with any ensemble – may it be with a dress, shorts, or denim.
Clogs or Crocs
The best way to express your playful and child spirit is by wearing Crocs! When wearing Crocs to an amusement park visit, I like to play around with Jibbitz, or the fun and cute embellishments you can add to your very own pair.
Just make sure to wear socks if you’re planning to wear Crocs with these kinds of amusement park outfits! If your feet are exposed, you might leave the park with unwanted polka dot sun spots on your feet.
“Dad” sneakers were popularized by New Balance and a ton of celebrities like Kanye and Kim Kardashian. These types of sneakers are usually more comfortable than casual sports sneakers (e.g. Nike Air Jordans, Air Force) and are a lot more comfortable for walking because of their added cushion sole.
If you wish to wear Jordans on your trip, you might want to invest in a cushioned sole which you can buy in selected Nike stores and shoe stores. This is one of the easiest amusement park outfits to throw together that’s cute and functional.
It’s important that you reserve as much freedom of movement, that’s why a hands-free bag is a crucial part of your outfit. If an item can’t fit in your belt bag, then there’s probably a reason why you shouldn’t bring this bulky item to your theme park trip. After all, you’re here to enjoy the walks, the rides, the food, and the company of good friends.
