It is no secret that early 2000s fashion and beauty trends are extremely popular right now. The pastel-filled era is endlessly fun to delve into, and it does not seem as though it will slow down anytime soon. As a result, bright colors and whimsical patterns have resurfaced in nail designs. It’s not just French manicures that are reviving Y2K nail art – now social media is flooded with playful, 2000s-inspired designs.
According to Pinterest data, Y2K heart nails are the top search trend for August, in addition to the swirly nail art that has been everywhere this summer. A variety of color palettes are being seen in these manicures, from browns and tans to pinks and greens reminiscent of the beloved ‘Powerpuff Girls’ cartoon.

What Are Y2K Nails?
Initially, we were obsessed with the ’90s and their beauty trends, but recently, things have changed. Social media is now filled with everything Y2K-related (that’s “the year 2000”). The timing seems pretty natural to us!
Y2K-inspired nail art is our favorite way to pay homage to the 2000s, especially when it comes to butterfly clips and frosty blue eyeshadow. With this nail trend, anything goes. You’ll find flames, checkered prints, pink hearts, rainbow hues, swirly lines, cheetah prints, and lots of glitter in our favorite designs.
Clearly, Y2K nails are all about being bold. The more over the top and crazy, the better. This wasn’t a subtle decade!
The latest trend in manicurists is hand-painting Furby and Tamagotchi characters, while others give a nod to the spray-painted aesthetic we wore on tees and sweatpants in the ’90s.
